The Situation
Visible Ink Press, a mid-sized publishing house, maintains a web-based catalog promoting every title they offer. The amount of information for each title is both extensive and unique. The content and imagery in the catalog were being managed by hand, which hampered time-sensitive updates and proved to be a source of inefficiency for the company. A central repository of title data was needed, with a web interface available for employees to access at any time, from any location.
The Challenge
Create a catalog administration system to provide an efficient method for organizing title information and dynamically updating the public catalog on the Web.
The Solution
After collaborating with Visible Ink staff to determine the numerous types of data they need to manage, Igadea designed an easy-to-use web interface for employees to access and maintain the web catalog. Thinking beyond their web site, we implemented mechanisms to store files and documents used for other facets of their business, such as printed catalogs and book covers. Visible Ink now has a single application that dynamically generates their public web site, maintains all data relevant to their titles, and provides a single point of access for staff members. We're already discussing future enhancements that would raise the bar even higher.
